The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) defines a service animal as a dog that has been individually trained to do work or perform tasks for an individual with a disability and the task(s) performed should be directly related to the individual’s disability. This definition eliminates emotional support, therapy, comfort, or companion animals from being considered service animals under the ADA. However, some states and local governments have laws that allow emotional support and therapy animals inside grocery stores and public places. We encourage you to check your state laws or reach out to your local BJ’s Wholesale Club store for more information.

However, it is important to note that service dogs are required to be leashed and well-behaved whilst inside the store. Service dogs that are not leashed will not be allowed inside a BJ’s store. Furthermore, service dogs that are misbehaving by threatening other shoppers and damaging store property may be kicked out of the store.
